Five Sports, Five Ways to Keep Fit During the Off-Season

Women's Sports and Casual Wear

Softball

If you’re a softball player during the normal spring season, that likely means you’re off for the summer soon thereafter. Keeping active in the summer seems like a no-brainer, but for those who are athletically inclined, it can sometimes be difficult to maintain that enthusiasm during the hottest, stickiest months. Besides, even if those players did make it through the summer and fall, getting through the winter without becoming practically comatose can be a real trial. For softball players, one of the best ways to stay fit and active in the sport is to use a softball pitching machine. Softball batting cages help players maintain their hand-eye coordination, and using them often means your swinging arms will be just as effective reacting when you step back to the plate in the spring.

Cross Country

Ladies who like to run long distances know that the miles add up quickly even during a short season. If you’re used to running nine miles a day, suddenly cutting back to one, or even none, can be jarring to the body. Though you certainly don’t need to maintain quite as staggering a pace during the off season, it is important that your body doesn’t adapt back to rest every day. Running at least a few miles five days a week should keep you active until the season’s back on.

Field Hockey

Unlike with softball, there’s no machine dangerous enough to ever attempt to shoot out field hockey balls at high speeds. That’s actual quite fortunate for these players, as they surely don’t want to end up injured, even during the off-season. Field hockey players on rest should still keep up on some endurance running training, but also, playing the occasional pickup game is really essential here. It helps keep the focus on teamwork, and it puts those stick handling skills to good use.

Soccer

Women soccer players endure trials just as straining as men playing soccer do, and that means they can’t let up at all during the off-season. For starters, soccer players should make sure to practice ball handling all the time, as these skills are the quickest to go. As with field hockey players, endurance running during the off season can be a huge asset later on, perhaps even more so for soccer players. Just be sure to find a space that’s warm and indoors during the coldest months to practice playing with other people, as simply running and practicing ball handling alone may not be enough.
